The fort was built by mir jumla who was the subahdar of Bangla under the Mughal Empire. The fort was built in 1660 A.D.

The present position of Idrakpur fort was a strategically very important junction. Because here was 4 rivers named Meghna River, Ichchamati River, Rhitalkha River and Dhaleshwari River.

The Portuguese and Magh Pirates used this place to attack ships toward Dhaka. To protect Dhaka city Mir Jumla decided to make a fort in Bikrampur (which is now Munshiganj). People think that there was a tunnel between idrakpur fort and Lalbagh fort of Dhaka.
