Munshiganj Town Information: This town is the district headquarters of Munshiganj district. It consists of 9 wards and 42 mahallas.The area of the town is 14.17 sq km with a population 52071. Among the male are 51.62% and female 48.38%. Literacy rate among the town people is 49.3%.

Major Educational institutions: There are 1 primary training institute and 3 technical training centres. Beside these there are also 16 colleges, 82 high schools and many schools in this district.

Population Cencus Of Serajdikhan Upazila

Serajdikhan Upazila (munshiganj district) area 180.19 sq km, located in between 23°30' and 23°40' north latitudes and in between 90°15' and 90°27' east longitudes. It is bounded by keraniganj upazila on the north, lohajang and sreenagar upazilas on the south, tongibari and narayanganj sadarupazilas on the east, Sreenagar and nawabganj upazilas on the west.
Population Total 241804; male 121462, female 120342; Muslim 206086, Hindu 33930, Buddhist 1758, Christian 21 and others 9.

Administration Serajdikhan Thana was formed in 1914 and it was turned into an upazila in 1983.

Sadeque Hossain Khoka Life History

Sadeque Hossain Khoka (born May 12, 1952) is a Bangladeshi politician. He served as the 2nd mayor of Dhaka City Corporation during 2002 to 2011. He was the vice chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

Early life and career

Khoka was born in a Muslim family. His father was an engineer and a social worker. Khoka attended Dhaka University and completed M.A. in Psychology. In 1971 at the age of 19 he fought in the Bangladesh Liberation War. After independence, he worked in organizing soccer, ultimately rising to the positions of General Secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan Football Association and Joint General Secretary of the Bangladesh Football Federation. Khoka is the key person of the football club Brothers Union.
Khoka was first elected to the Jatiyo Sangshad (national legislature) in 1991. In the same year he was made State Minister of Youth and Sports. Khoka also has won from his constituency in elections in 1996 and 2001. After Bangladesh Nationalist Party's victory in 2001, Khoka was made Cabinet Minister of Fisheries and Livestock. Being in the office, he fought the Dhaka City Corporation election for mayorship and won. He took office as the Mayor of Dhaka on April 25, 2002. He served as both Minister and Mayor till 2004 when he resigned from the ministry.
Khoka resigned from the mayoral duties of Dhaka on November 29, 2011, when the government passed a bill in parliament to split DCC (Dhaka City Corporation) into two parts and renamed them DCC North and DCC South.
Family
Khoka is married to Ismat Ara and has two sons and a daughter. His son Ishfaque Hossain is now a Bachelor level student from University of Hertfordshire. His daughter Sarika Sadeque is married to Ahmed Iftekhar, Son of Ahmad Nazir, Ex Parliament Member. Both of them pursued MBA degree from University of Durham.

The Free Encyclopedia Gazaria Upazila


The Pakistan government established the Dhaka-Chittagong High way through the locality. Gazaria Thana was turned into an upazila in 1983.Gazaria is mainly composed of alluvial land around the Meghna river. The locality became a part of Tippara Thana under the Assam District during British rule. Gazaria became the part of Munshiganj Thana in 1946 and the independent Gazaria Thana was established in 1954.
War of Independence
In May 1971, the Pakistani army entered Gazaria by river. A raid on the village of Goshairchar on 9 May killed more than four hundred people. The army proceeded to Bhaberchar where they also killed eleven sheltering in a ditch. Other villages in the area were attacked in the same raid.
Bangladeshi soldiers from Gazaria fought at Bhabercha, Baluakand and Baushia under the leadership of Rafiqul Islam and interrupted communication along the highway by destroying the bridge at Bhaterchar in August 1971, obstructing the advancement of the Pakistani army.
In 2011 the Local Government constructed a memorial at Gosairchar.
Geography
Gazaria Upazila is located at 23.5417°N 90.6083°E, covering a total area of 130.92 km². It is the Meghna River delta, which separates it from the district headquarters of Munshiganj. Two bridges connect it with the mainland: the Meghna Bridge in the west, and the Meghna-Gomotee Bridge in the east. The Kajali river flows through the district.

According to the 1991 Bangladesh census, Gazaria had a population of 128,368.
Literacy rate
Gazaria has a literacy rate of 32.7% (counting people over the age of 7), compared to national figures of 32.4%.

Detail Description Of Munshiganj District

Munshiganj district is located in the central Bangladesh. Today's Munshiganj was once a part of ancient glorious region of Bikrampur. The previous name of the region is "Idrakapur". There was a famous personality named Munshi Hayder Hossain in the Mughal period who was appointed by the Mughol as a local ruler for the region on behalf. Mushi was extremely great and famous for his activities for mankind and formerly Indrakpur was renamed after the great personality Munshi Hayder Hossain. In 1945, the region was promoted as a subdivision by British East India Company for administrative benefits. On March 01, 1984 Munsiganj was declared as a district under Dhaka Division. The land of the region in almost low lying area and has no hilly area. Most of the area is flooded in rainy season. The total area of Munshiganj is 954.96 Sq Km. The Geo position of the region is between 23˚29’ to 23˚45’ North Latitude and between 90˚10’ to 90˚43’east Longitude.

History And Famous Person Of Munshiganj District


Bikrampur (Munshiganj) was the political and cultural centre of ancient Bengal. It was officially known as Bikrampur until 1986 and was part of Dhaka District. The remains of the city of Bikrampur, the capital of the ancient kingdoms of southeastern Bengal, are lost and its location can only be guessed on the basis of available data. The area comprising the districts of Munshiganj stretching on the west of the Meghna and Dhaleshwari had been included in the kingdom of vikramapura in the ancient period. During the Sena rule Vikramapura in East Bengal had been the second capital of the Senas in addition to their capital at Nadia. After the fall of Nadia in the hands of bakhtiyar khalji (1204) the Sena King lakshmanasena fled to Vikramapura and began to rule East Bengal. After the death of Lakshmanasena (1206) his descendants Visvarupasena and Kesavasena ruled in Vikramapura till at least 1223 AD. Some historians postulate that the sons of Lakshamanasena ruled in Vikramapura up to 1243-45 AD. Raja Dasarathadeva Danujmadhava (Danuj Rai), the Deva king of Chandradvipa, ousted the Senas from Vikramapura in the third quarter of the thirteenth century and ruled the south-eastern Bengal till the end of the thirteenth century.

Munshiganj (Bengali: মুন্সীগঞ্জ) also historically known as Bikrampur is a district in central
 Bangladesh. It is a part of the Dhaka Division and borders Dhaka District. 
Total land area is 235974 acres (954 km2), out of which 138472 acres (560 km2) are cultivable and 5609 acres (23 km2) are fallow land. It has no forest area. 40277 acres (163 km2) of land is irrigated while 26242 acres (106 km2) of land is under river. It has 14 rivers of 155 km passing through.
